Welcome
To
Shangri-La Chinese Restaurant
Authentic Chinese fare draws an international crowd,
although those looking for the familiar American-Chinese
favorites will find them here, too. It's a shame, however, to
settle for boneless almond chicken when there are so many more
interesting dishes, including fresh fish and seafood plucked
from a huge tank, as well as dishes such as braised duck with
Chinese mushrooms, Hong Kong eggplant and minced pork stir-fried
with ginger and garlic and beef short ribs with spicy salt. Dim
sum is served daily from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The big dining
rooms are decorated with artwork brought from China, including a
colorful stained glass ceiling, pieces of which were shipped in
dozens of crates and then reassembled here. It would take a
diner a couple of years to sample everything on the extensive
list of dishes representing many regions of China, from upscale
lobster and crab treatments to the down-to-earth breakfast dish
and student favorite, congee.
